The Ada Traditional Council has officially announced the cancellation of the Grand Durbar and Thanksgiving Service scheduled as part of the 2026 Asafotufiami Festival.
According to a public notice dated 6th August 2026, the decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the Ada Traditional Council held on Tuesday, 5th August 2026, at the residence of the Paramount Chief.
The Council explained that the traditional rites associated with this year’s Asafotufiami Festival have been extended through Saturday, 8th August 2026.
As a result, the Council has cancelled the previously scheduled Grand Durbar and Thanksgiving Service to allow the traditional rites to be completed properly and without interruption.
The Council said it considers it inappropriate for the two events to proceed while the extended customary rites are still ongoing.
The Ada Traditional Council has expressed its appreciation to all chiefs, the people of Ada, invited guests and the general public for their understanding, while apologising for any inconvenience caused by the change.
The Council also wished the people of Ada and all well-wishers a peaceful and blessed Asafotufiami Festival.
